Why top chefs like Ranveer Brar prefer wooden chopping boards at home and why you should too. Inspired by Ranveer Brar’s wooden chopping board, we created something out of teak — stronger, better and safer.
World-class chefs are known for their tools and fancy gadgets in their kitchen. Ultra-modern tools, expensive knives and cookware are often highlighted in their kitchen. But when you look at the kitchens of the best culinary minds like Ranveer Brar, you realise that some of the appliances are basic. One of them is the wooden chopping board. Not plastic, not steel, not glass — but wood.
Ranveer Brar, a Michelin-starred culinary maestro, is seen using a 10x15x1.5 inch wooden chopping board in his home kitchen. It’s a beautiful board — small, compact but perfect for cooking a meal for a small family. The board looks durable and tough and is made from a single block of wood. We do believe that the wood is teak but we are not really sure. Nevertheless, we were inspired, hooked to recreate the board he uses at his home.
At Amra Farms we specialise in creating single-block wooden chopping boards and inspired by Chef Ranveer Brar, we decided to create one in teak wood. Our single-block teak wood chopping board comes in the same dimensions as the one used by Chef Ranveer but made in pure teak, single block of wood. This ensures the board lasts longer. Teak is far more dense than most of the other woods and is considered superior to acacia, mango wood or tamarind. They are also aesthetically pleasing.
Wooden chopping boards have been a trusted kitchen tool for generations. They look beautiful, are safer, sturdier and a smarter choice for home cooks and professional chefs. When it’s made from teak, it simply elevates the overall experience in terms of appearance, aesthetics and food safety.
Ranveer Brar’s style of cooking is rooted in tradition. His use of ingredients in his cooking, the stories about food, the evolution of various foods like avial, rogan josh and food from north to south and east to west of India is so captivating that sometimes we forget the purpose of watching his recipes. His kitchen reflects his ideas and thoughts about his food too. The use of traditional techniques and natural materials in his cooking is no surprise at all. The use of the wooden chopping board at home is a deliberate choice rooted in nostalgia and practicality. His choice is more than aesthetics. It is functional, safe and intentional.
When we saw Chef Ranveer Brar’s perfect-sized chopping board at 15x10x1 inch, we were inspired by its simplicity. The use of a solid sustainable wood with full character is not just beautiful and captivating but adds life to the entire picture. So we started creating a small batch using farm-grown teak wood shaped into single-block boards. The edges were smoothened and rounded. No juice grooves, no handle grooves. Dense, thick and tough. Initially, we thought this was a bit too thick for chopping but then we realised the thickness ensured smooth cutting for both vegetables and meat. No polish, no chemical finish. Just natural oil and love — the board was simply perfect.
The boards by Amra Farms are made from teak wood and come with a 1-year warranty. The wood used is aged teak and from a single block. This chopping board has rich grains and is crafted from 100% heartwood of original teak.
