FAQs

How long does it take for the cutting board to be delivered
All our Chopping boards are delivered through India post. We provide a tracking code with the express delivery details via SMS and Whatsapp. Your products will be delivered in 3-7 days
Is Tamarind wood good for chopping boards?
Yes. Tamarind wood is hard, durable, and knife-friendly. They make excellent wooden chopping boards. It is moisture-resistant, less prone to cracking, and stronger than most other wood types. They are also one of the few proven woods that have stood the test of time. It has been used for chopping boards and butcher boards in South India for centuries.
How does Tamarind wood compare to Teak or Acacia?
Teak wood cutting boards are famous for their antibacterial features and water resistance. Acacia, on the other hand, is a beautiful wood that is tough. Tamarind is cheaper than teak and acacia, stands the test of time, has better longevity, and higher resistance to wear. The wood has a striking appearance which is loved by some.
Is Tamarind wood safe for food preparations?
Yes. Tamarind wood is non-toxic, chemical-free, and safe for cutting vegetables and meat. Time-tested, tamarind wood boards are antibacterial in nature, which is one of the prime reasons for their wide use as cutting boards and professional butcher boards in Southern India.
Is the board reversible?
Yes. The Tamarind wood chopping boards are reversible. This makes it a single, all-in-one board for cutting vegetables and meat. Choose one side for meat and the other for vegetables. This also ensures a longer life for the board and even wear.
Does it damage knives?
No. Tamarind wood is relatively softer on knives compared to teak, bamboo, and acacia. They are tough enough to hold the base but soft on the sharp edges of your knives, ensuring they don’t dull fast.
How to clean the chopping board?
The chopping board can be washed with warm water and mild soap. Dry immediately after washing with a towel. You can sanitise the board once a week or whenever needed with a salt and lemon scrub. Do not use harsh chemicals. Oil the board when it feels dry with a food-safe mineral oil or organic coconut oil.
Is this Tamarind wood chopping board suitable for meat preparations?
Yes. Thicker boards, especially end grain, are best for cutting meat. Thick Tamarind wood chopping boards are ideal too, as they offer a heavy-duty surface that can withstand sharp knives and heavy chopping.
Is Tamarind wood sustainable?
Tamarind wood is often sourced from fallen or retired trees. Most often, these trees are cleared during development projects by the government, where the wood is discarded or burned. We source them from reliable suppliers and ensure they are put to good use instead of being burned. Handmade chopping boards by Amra Farms are designed with the environment in mind.
Can I use this as a serving or cheese board?
Yes. Tamarind wood has a rustic charm and unique wood grain patterns. Some boards with prominent grains can be a good accessory for presentation, but beware that not everyone may love the tone of the wood.
What sizes of the boards are available?
Our boards are available in small, medium, and large sizes. All our boards are made from a single block of wood. We do custom sizes and shapes too, based on customer requirements.
Is the board handmade?
Yes. All our boards are handcrafted by skilled artisans. No two boards are the same – the unique texture and tone of the wood make it impossible to replicate the boards.
Where can I buy the Tamarind wood chopping board?
Amra Farm provides a full online shopping experience at choppingboards.in. You can confidently buy these chopping boards online from our website.
Why is tamarind wood so expensive?
It is not true that tamarind wood is expensive. Tamarind wood is relatively cheaper than many other woods including teak. The higher price of tamarind wood products is mostly due to the difficulty in working with the wood due to its density. Since tamarind wood is dense, working with it takes time and more effort and use of heavy-duty tools, making products crafted from tamarind wood more expensive than the wood itself.
What are the disadvantages of tamarind wood cutting board?
Tamarind wood is dense and tough. While this may be a good feature for a cutting board, it is also heavy and difficult to move around. Especially boards that are large could weigh anywhere between 2.5 kg to 6 kg for an extra-large cutting board. This may not be feasible for home use, especially when moving your board is required frequently.
